Crawfish Rock - Western Port

Western Port, to the east of Port Phillip and the Mornington Peninsula, is a shallow muddy waterway with deep water shipping channels, not often considered as a dive destination.

Crawfish Rock sits in the sheltered waters North East of Hastings Bay and Frech Island consists of a house-sized flat-topped pyramid just breaking the surface at low tide.

Vis is often less that 3m here but that means much of the interesting life usually found down deep occurs in the 5 to 15m range. Nudibranchs, seaspiders and hydroids abound on the plentiful sponges adorning the steeply sloped walls. The seabed bottoms out at about 20m.
