The HMAS Hobart was a guided missile destroyer commissioned in 1965 and sailed to Vietnam in 1967, 68 and 70 providing air defense for the fleet. Length - 133m, beam - 14m.
The Hobart was scuttled in Nov 2002 in Yankalilla Bay as a dive wreck and rests on a sandy bottom in 28m with the top of the structure providing a perfect deco stop at 6m. The bridge is at 18m. This is a safe and easy wreck to dive being very well prepared with large cut out exits from almost every space. Dive boats leave from the marina 10km south of Normanville on the Fleurieu Peninsula for the 15min trip out to the well bouyed site. More info can be found at www.diveexhmashobart.com |
