Lonsdale Wall - The Rip![]() ![]() ![]()
Lonsdale Wall is one of the premier dives in Victoria. Situated on the western and southern side of the deep ravine curving through the Rip. The sea life here is bigger, more plentiful and more colourful than any other sites in Victoria. From seabed at about 12m the wall descends to 60m or so in a series of steps. The deepest part of "The Entrance Deep" is more than 90m but only the brave venture that far. Being right in The Rip diving here is totally tide dependent with only 20m of slack water bottom time. Raging currents prevent diving at all other times. Some sections are within the shipping channel and can only be dived when there are no ships passing through. Dive boat operators must contact the Lonsdale Lighthouse for clearance to dive in the shipping channel. |
