Thousands of cuttles migrate to the upper reaches of Spencer Gulf in South Australia during May, June and July every year. This is one of the very few places worldwide where this event occurs.

The dive sites are shallow, 3 to 6m, and fairly protected. Dives are from shore or boat and could easily be snorkelled. Water temp. when we were there was a chilly 12 degrees and air temp about 15. Visibility was about 5m after lots of rough weather. Usually better than this especially during a dodge tide (minimal difference between height of high and low tides).

These photos were taken with $15 disposable waterproof cameras. We didn't own the Nikonos or coolpix at that stage.
